The Saint-Hubert Bookshop invited 5 prominent contemporary artists to transform its 5 shop windows. We asked each artist to create an installation, by gathering personal items if they wished –from long-cherished books to fetish objects - and by selecting books from the bookstore shelves. Each window became a kind of small stage, upon which the artists’ memories, interests and obsessions are played out. In each window, we have also presented a large-scale artwork on paper, created in collaboration with Michael Woolworth, a Paris-based master printer. The event 5/5 also includes prints and artists’ books by the 5 artists, presented in our exhibition spaces on the ground floor and upstairs in the bookshop. The prints and artists’ books on display were all created between 2002 and 2008 in Michael Woolworth’s atelier, a kind of laboratory for creation where, in collaboration with artists, the art of printmaking is constantly being reinvented.
